Recognizing the crucial role of education in building economic independence to break the cycle of poverty, Goal 2 of ENVISION focuses on strengthening school readiness among economically-disadvantaged children to prepare for a life of academic success. Working through the Early Education Coalition, UWGC aims to affect systems-level change through increasing by 10% the number of low-income kindergarteners who pass developmental benchmarks defined by literacy, math, and socio-emotional measures by 2027, as well as increase the number of Black kindergarteners who pass by 20%.

UWGC has long been a leader in School Readiness, striving for equity of opportunity among all children in Charlottesville and throughout Virginia.
